Letter: McCabe's ideas more important than his campaign funds

Letter to the editor
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mike McCabe speaks to supporters in the Brown County Central Library auditorium on Sept. 14, 2017.

DE PERE - A Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel report in the March 11 Press-Gazette, "No clear leader in Dem field for governor,” indicated that although candidate Mike McCabe had a 9 percent favorable impression with voters, “no candidate had less money” except Sen. Kathleen Vinehout. The implication is a candidate can’t win an election unless he or she has a lot of money invested.

We older seniors remember a time when long-serving conservative Sen. William Proxmire could spend a couple hundred dollars just to let voters know that he was running again. But times have changed indeed. We now see over a million dollars from outside the state spent on a single nonpartisan race for a state Supreme Court position.

But that is exactly why Mike McCabe is the right candidate for governor. Mike is the former director of the nonpartisan Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, which has and is following where the money is coming from and going to. Mike has also put limits on what individuals and special interest groups can contribute to his campaign for governor.

This may seem to handicap his race for governor, but I think Wisconsin voters should look at Mike McCabe’s ideas for Wisconsin rather than how much money he has raised.
