GREEN BAY - The Zippin Pippin at Bay Beach Amusement Park will reopen at noon Saturday.

The State Department of Safety and Professional Services has recertified the roller coaster, according to a news release from Mayor Jim Schmitt's office.

The coaster was shut down June 20 after one of its two trains failed to come to a complete stop and rear-ended the other train, which was empty at the time. The incident sent two employees and a child to the hospital.

There is still no word on what caused the collision.

In response to state findings of several violations, the city has done maintenance upgrades, conducted test runs of the ride and improved training for the ride's operators.

The reopened ride will have only one train running at first. The city is still waiting for certification of the other train.

Riders scream as they make the first drop on the Zippin Pippin at Bay Beach Amusement Park in Green Bay.
