Driver distracted by bratwurst sideswipes van

A man eating a bratwurst while attempting to pass sideswiped a van on Wisconsin 57 Sunday morning in the town of Brussels in southern Door County.

Heather A. Bort, 30, West Allis, was traveling south in the right lane of Wisconsin 57 at 10:48 a.m. Sunday when her vehicle was being overtaken by C. David Bakken, 71, Inverness, Ill., according to a Door County Sheriff accident report. Bakken, who was eating the brat at the time, crossed the centerline, sideswiping Bort's van.

Neither driver, nor a passenger with Bort, were injured and both vehicles had minor damage.

Bakken was cited with inattentive driving.
