Hinterland's Groundbreaker a nod to Titletown District

Hinterland Groundbreaker is a double pilsner.

When you're a brewer, you celebrate the impending groundbreaking of a new brewery by brewing a beer. It's what brewers do.

Groundbreaker, a new double pilsner from Hinterland Brewery, made the rounds on draft recently in Green Bay and is now being bottled.

Tasting notes from the brewer describe Groundbreaker as a strong, clean and crisp golden lager that's malty and smooth with a touch of hop bitterness. Brewed with 2 Row and Pilsner malts and Hallertau hops, it has a 7.0 percent alcohol by volume and 20 IBUs.

Just as you don't bring in rookies without losing a few veterans, this beer is replacing Hinterland's winter into spring seasonal, Maple Bock.

The name is a nod to work the brewer plans to begin in the next few months in the Titletown District near Lambeau Field. Hinterland's gameplan is to open a new brewery and brewpub in time for the 2017 Green Bay Packers season.

Groundbreaker is on draft in some areas, but it will likely be a week or two before six-packs start showing up in beer coolers where Hinterland is regularly distributed.
