Flying drones now illegal at Green Bay events

Drones are now illegal to fly at special events in Green Bay.

The ban was approved unanimously by the City Council on Tuesday, making Green Bay the first city in the state to enact such an ordinance.

City Attorney James Meuller said the ban originated from a request by the Green Bay Packers organization to enact an ordinance that would allow local police to regulate use of the small unmanned aircraft at Lambeau Field.

The ban applies only to special events, which are defined as those that interfere with the normal flow of traffic on streets and sidewalks or the normal use of parks and other public areas. Public safety officials are exempt from the ban.

Individuals may also fly drones at events if they obtain approval by the event organizer or the Federal Aviation Administration.
